It seems like everyone I know these days is performing stand-up at New York Comedy Club. And unfortunately, laughs do not come cheap.
To see a show at the New York Comedy Club down in Gramercy, tickets are $15. Not bad, but with the two drink minimum, and drinks conveniently priced at 10 bucks a pop, you’re setting yourself back at least $35. However, there are some ways to get around this price.
There are some sign up sheets at the table, and should you fill one out, your name will get entered into a drawing where you can receive free tickets to the comedy club for you and your friends. For me personally, I’d rather go to the club when I know someone who is performing. While I’ve been to the comedy club when I didn’t know anyone in the set list, it was a sub par experience - but then again, no two nights at a club are the same. I think the fun is in watching your friends/boss do stand-up and see how they stack up with the rest of the acts.
That being said, if you know when your favorite PR consultant is performing, you can purchase tickets ahead of time for 50% off on the New York Comedy Club’s Web site. This way, you can save yourself a few bucks and if the comics don’t share your sense of humor, you can afford another drink.
