Katwalk: $15 AYCD From 6-8 on Weeknights

Looking for a good place to drink cheaply? Check out Katwalk on 35th and 5th. Although it looks a bit sketchy (my friends all thought it was a strip club at first, and granted it’s in a seedy part of town), it’s actually a pretty chic bar/lounge with a great deal.

Every Monday-Friday you can enjoy an open bar for a mere $15 from 6-8 pm. First, that’s a great price for AYCD. Second, that’s a doable time frame. I’m so annoyed with “happy hours” that end at 6-7 pm. Really, who gets out of work in enough time to commute and order a drink before the happy hour is over at 6 pm?

Anyway, love the price, love the time frame, but I did not love the food. My friends and I went for the 3 for $30 appetizer special (hardly a deal since all apps are $10 except the salsa and chips for $8 and nachos for $12 - p.s. they were made with fake cheese, ew.), but we didn’t like anything we tried. Everything tasted previously frozen and heated up, with soft, not crunchy chicken fingers that tasted awful, a horrific cheese pizza and some terrible rolled up chicken quesadillas with a chipotle salsa (sadly, the best part of all the apps).

But let’s be fair - they were promoting an open bar for a more than reasonable price and they delivered, no question about it. They also have a few other specials worth mentioning, including Sex and the City Wednesdays (they’ll show episodes from SATC on the big screen with some good drink specials), and Ladies Night on Thursday - happy hour specials, including $3 domestic drafts and $6 martinis and glasses of wine, until the bar closes.

So, if you’re looking to kick back a few pints of beer or glasses of wine, or both, to start your night, then head over to Katwalk. Just make sure to hit up the Subway next store to quell any food cravings.
