East Village’s Moulin Rouge Wine Bar

Guest Post By Caryn, Gramercy Correspondent

If you’re looking for a good wine bar, look no further than the Bourgeois Pig in the East Village (7th Street between 1st Ave and Ave A). Its cozy and intimate atmosphere with dim lighting and velvet couches makes it an appealing change from a lot of NY spots. While I haven’t tried it, the cheese fondue is apparently amazing, and they have an assortment of other cheeses and fondues on the menu as well. Bottles of wine can be a bit high for this thrifty young professional, but if you go on a Tuesday night, all bottles are half price all night. This is a popular special and the place is packed even on a Tuesday, so expect to wait. They do not admit anyone unless there is a seat available. While they used to allow patrons to wait across the street at the old Bourgeois Pig bar, that has been closed for a few months, so you’ll have to entertain yourself. But don’t worry, you can give them your cell number and they’ll call when a table opens up, so feel free to hit up a nearby bar while you wait. I’d definitely suggest trying this place out if you haven’t already, especially on a Tuesday night.
