Milkshakes Inspired By Beer? I’m Intrigued…

As part of NY Craft Beer Week (Sept. 24 - Oct. 3), bars, restaurants and breweries are holding all kinds of cool promotions and events. One interesting offering is at Mel’s Burger Bar (by the owners of the famous Tao): a $40 pairing menu, including a Stout milkshake.

Using homemade ice cream from Max and Mina’s in Queens, milk and beer (Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner, Speakeasy Prohibition Ale, Six Point Action or Ithaca Flower Power), this unique milkshake certainly caught my attention.

You have two choices with menu:

Pairing Menu 1

  • Brisket Chili paired with Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner
  • Broadway Burger (made with Pat LeFrieda meat, the stuff that makes Danny Meyer’s Shake Shack burgers, and other notable burgers, stand out) and Atomic Fries paired with Speakeasy Prohibition Ale
  • Mel’s Stout Milkshake

Pairing Menu 2

  • Buffalo Wings paired with Six Point Sweet Action
  • 6 hour Brisket Sandwich and Shoestring Onions paired with Ithaca Flower Power
  • Mel’s Stout Milkshake
I have to say, it sounds oddly delicious, and I’m just impressed that Mel’s Burger Bar found another way to use beer. If anyone tries it out, let us know how it goes!
