In honor of the US’s victory yesterday, we thought we’d share a few more World Cup specials around the city (again, these are not exactly hard to come by, so we’re just picking out a few that we like).
One of our favorites is at Exchange Bar & Grill in Gramercy. If you’re watching the game(s) with a group (and by group we mean 10 or more people), you are eligible for some specials. For the 7:30 am and 10:30 am games, they have a brunch special for only $15 which includes your meal and three drinks. Throw in another $5 and for every goal your team makes, you’ll get a shot (of course with Exchange they had to add a gambling aspect to this since there is a chance you’ll just lose out on $5 if your team never scores). The same deal is in effect for the 2:30 pm games, but instead of breakfast you’ll get lunch. Makes sense to us. The one strange bit is that you apparently need to sign up/RSVP to watch the game there so that they know your party is coming and you can get in on the deal. Check the site for more information.
I love hushpuppies and BBQ. So needless to say, Virgil‘s is making a compelling reason for me to watch the US game there since they’re giving away free hushpuppies during each 2:30 pm game of the tournament (at the bar only). I may as well grab one of their deliciously saucy pulled pork sandwiches while I’m at it!
If you’re reading this in time, then watch the Italy vs Slovaki game at SD26 (or any other future Italy games, should they win), because they are giving away free pizza during the Italy games!
Macao Trading Co is apparently offering $5 beers, $6 sandwiches, and if you’re thirsty and hungry (isn’t this usually the case?), then consider the FIFA Special: a sandwich, beer, and coffee or juice for just $10.
Finally, if your cultural interest in the World Cup lies mainly in trying the different cuisines to correspond with the teams playing, then Paradour may be right up your alley. The chef has whipped up four different three-course prix fixe menus that will rotate each week of the tournament to represent the cuisine of the continents - Australia, Africa/Asia, the Americas and Europe, respectively (I guess ice served in your drink will represent Antarctica?). Go USA! And enjoy!
