Ice Cream Makes Exercising Bearable

Guest Post and Photography by Katie Miervaldis, Red Headed Correspondent

I have never found this statement more relevant than a recent Sunday when my two lady friends and I decided to venture across the Brooklyn Bridge towards two full scoops of paradise.

The sunshine played a key role in our enjoyment of the day. We took the 6 down to City Hall, hopped off the train and right onto the Bridge to take in the views. The bikers were violent, the vendors were surprisingly pleasant, and it took over 45 minutes to get across due to tourist traffic, but we played right into it snapping photos every couple steps.

Once over the Bridge, make your way to the water where you’ll pass Grimaldi’s, The River Cafe (my dream restaurant) and head straight for the little townhouse smack in the middle of the pier. I’m talking ambiance people, it’s awesome and a great date spot. Get your ice cream and hurry to the funky benches on the pier before it melts. Made with all natural ingredients you can actually taste the milk, which is an unusual flavor after years of frequenting store brand pints. I devoured one scoop of butter pecan and one of vanilla…yums. I haven’t sampled the sundae, banana split, or shake varieties, but I’m sure they are equally scrumptious.

Beware, the ice cream is good, debatably great, but you might want to scope out the line before diving into it. We waited 15 minutes, a small price to pay for pure creamy deliciousness, but I’ve heard some horror stories of hour+ waits.
