Every once in awhile I find such a great deal that I feel the need to share it with everyone. I recently discovered Common Ground Bar in the East Village. The cozy and somewhat dark bar offers such a phenomenal happy hour special that you’ll leave drunk and full. I’m not sure how much mixed drinks were, but I do know that I spent the night drinking $2 Miller Lites. $10 for five beers isn’t too bad. (Editor’s note - Cosmos and Apple Martini’s are $5).
Not only are the drinks cheap, but the appetizers are 2 for 1. And it’s not a typical pub grub menu of greasy nachos and messy wings. It’s a classy menu where everything runs from about $6 to $10 dollars. My 3 friends and I shared brie cheese with apricot chutney, a goat cheese and artichoke panini, dates wrapped in bacon, and a hummus platter. Everything was delicious and I would definitely come back again just for the food. My only complaint was the slow service — but in a crowded bar, I guess that’s somewhat expected.
But that’s not all! It’s a chill bar with a laid back crowd which is exactly what I want after a long day of work. No one cares what anyone is wearing and you won’t feel out of place being in a business suit or sweats. And if you’re craving a little additional entertainment, boardgames are scattered throughout the bar.
The Basics Name: Common Ground Bar Location: 206 Ave A between 12th and 13th Who to take: Friends, co-workers Price: Re-read this post. $2 drinks. $ Overall: One of Jenni’s faves. 5 Stars.

Umm, do they have greasy nachos and messy wings? Cause I prefer that stuff. If so, sounds like a terrific find to me.
This sounds like a hidden gem! And I’m with Doug, I love nachos…but I love brie and hummus too…
