I am probably the stingiest person I’ve ever met. I’m also probably the hungriest. I could eat 24 hours a day and I rarely turn down an offer to grab dinner. In order to avoid shelling out $20 for these dinners, I’m constantly on the hunt for great food at great prices.
Recently I discovered The Cottage. Don’t be fooled by the name, it’s a Chinese restaurant. And not just any
Chinese restaurant. It has free, unlimited wine with any entree order. It seemed too good to be true, but we just kept receiving jugs of wine on our table. We joked that it must be boxed wine. That joke came to an end when someone passed the kitchen on the way to the bathroom and confirmed that yes, it was Franzia. But I can’t complain, it was still free and unlimited.
It seems that word got out about the restaurant to the NYU kids because the restaurant was pretty big (by NY standards) and it was completely packed. It’s definitely worth it to make a reservation if you want to go on a weekend night.
The dishes were big and we split 5 entrees between 6 people. While the food wasn’t amazing and the wine was sure to give me a killer hangover in the morning, I knew I would be returning once I saw the check. It was $54 total including tax and tip which mean we each only paid $9!
The Basics Name: The Cottage Location: 33 Irving Pl between 16th and 17th Who to bring: Friends Price: Under $10 for dinner, drinks, tip and tax. $ Overall: Good value. 4 stars.

Great post! I live a few blocks away and always wondered about that place - now I’ll have to go!
