A Sample Sale for Sauce?

While I haven’t had much luck with clothing sample sales in NYC, food sample sales are much more likely to catch my attention.

We recently were informed that renowned Italian restaurant Il Mulino is having their own sauce sample sale on Friday, April 3 from 10am - 5pm. The restaurant recently launched their own line of jarred sauces made from the same recipe used in their Greenwich Village restaurant. While I’ve never been to Il Mulino, Caryn has tried the Vegas establishment and mentioned it’s very good.

Pomodoro and marinara sauces are half off (jars typically start around $10) and if you buy four sauces, you even get a free tote. Caryn and I were recently sent a sample of the marinara sauce. Although I prefer olive oil on my pasta, Caryn thought the sauce was pretty good.

Caryn’s thoughts on the sauce and restaurant

I liked the simplicity of the sauce, and it really brought out the flavor of the tomatoes. My only complaint is that it was too puréed for my taste. I prefer a chunkier tomato sauce, which is also how I like my salsa. It was definitely good and worth checking out with the discounted price.

And going back to the restaurant itself, it is outstanding. Although oddly enough, I think my favorite part are the free appetizers that come with your meal. We were very excited to go to such a well-known Italian restaurant, and I look forward to trying the New York establishment.

Thanks to Il Mulino for the sample!
