Award Winning Burgers on the Cheap

Guest Post By Rob Longert, Health Conscious Correspondent

Ever get a hankering for a good, greasy burger? Ok, that is a dumb question because we all need some grease now and then.

I was introduced to Five Guys and Fries in my past life prior to my Weight Watchers days (Over the past year and a half I have lost 60 pounds and have stayed away from fast food completely). Alissa and I (my wonderful woman) went to a Five Guys on Long Island while doing some shopping one day, and since then we have been in love… with their burgers and fries that is.

Fast forward to Tuesday, March 24, 2009… We didn’t want to cook and I lost a pound this week during my weigh in so it was a good time for a treat. One day I passed by the Five Guys on 55th between 5th and 6th, one of two Five Guys in the city, and knew I had to return.

When you walk into Five Guys, you will see their accolades from various publications, Zagats, etc… and as a knowledgeable PR professional, this is always a good sign for any brand.

As an appetizer, I suggest the free peanuts… for one they are free and they are they shelled peanuts that are fun to eat. For a main course, any of their burgers will do, but I had a burger (a burger at Five Guys is two patties) with bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles along with BBQ sauce on the side for fry dipping purposes. Liss had a similar combo, with lettuce, American cheese, pickles and sautéed mushrooms on the side (all of the toppings are free and you can get any of them on the side for you picky eaters).

One order of fries was plenty for both of us, and with me being somewhat health conscious, I felt better sharing these delectable treats that are made in peanut oil. YUMMMMM. As you can see from the photo below, I was quite full after my meal…

For a total of just over $20 my lady and I had a delicious dinner on the cheap, which I highly recommend for those who have yet to experience Five Guys. If you like In and Out burger or any other burger chain, these guys will give you a run for your money.

P.S. - These guys are on Twitter, which makes me like them even more!

Do you think they’re open at 8:25 am? Because that’s what time I’m reading this and I want a burger NOW

  • I love Five Guys - I had no idea they were in NYC! We just got one in Athens within the last year or so and it’s always busy (especially late at night/after the bars close). Try their cajun fries next time you go, they’re amazing.

Five Guys has gone global, is on Twitter, and tastes delicious. I think I need to open a franchise…
