Since moving to New York, I’ve been a member of Thrillist.  Thrillist is a daily newsletter that’s mostly geared towards males (yet I’m a subscriber).  Basically, think of a male version of DailyCandy that instead of the content focusing strictly on sample sales and products, it also features cool restaurants, Web sites (such as Diaroogle), bars and events.  I subscribe to the NYC edition, but there are editions in various cities - such as Boston, San Francisco and Miami.  Especially if you are new to a city and looking for something to do and places to go, Thrillist is a great resource and the newsletter format is simple to read.

Thanks to Thrillist, I’ve been fortunate enough to go to a few free drinking/eating events.  I will admit, these events are few and far between, so don’t expect you’ll be going somewhere once a week for free because of the newsletter.  Usually, these free events are in maybe 3 newsletters every 6 months - but I would definitely advise if you see any of these events, to go because usually they are executed fairly well.  To date, I’ve attended a party for an Australian beer company where we dined on shrimp on the barbie - only downside was that the beer ran out in about three hours.  Another event was for a fruit juice company where we sipped on vodka cocktails and ate calamari, sushi and crab cakes.

Most recently, I attend Thrillist’s third anniversary party down at Greenhouse, the city’s new eco-friendly club.  While my coworkers were more excited about the water-less urinals than the actual party, all in all it was a great night with free Jose Cuervo and Dos Equis.  I will warn you that while there is a guest list at these events, they can be crowded, so just be patient, find a great place to park yourself near the bar and I guarantee you’ll have a good night.

After numerous free shots and beers, who wouldn’t be happy? Good find Zanzal. Despite the lack of calamari that i was promised, i was still happy to have attended.

I was wondering why Thrillist was sending me stuff for men…makes a lot more sense now! You are right on, it’s Daily Candy for men (without the Chick Lit-looking cartoons of women putting on a stiletto, looking for the wallet in their handbag, etc…)

Hey I read about Thrilllist in Entrepreneur magazine. It’s funny to see it in action.
