Obsessed with Antika in Astoria

After I saw Antika Pizzeriapop up in Astoria, I was looking forward to my first visit. We checked it out last Thursday, and I could not have

been happier with my visit.

Our group of five was sat a circle table (my favorite for when you are out with a group).  I’m happy to report that Antika Pizzeria does have a gluten-free option, so if you are dying for pizza but want your gluten-free friend to come too, she’ll be able to munch on some gluten-free primavera pasta dish.

We received a bread basket to start the meal, and this honestly was the best bread I’ve ever had. It’s been a few days, and I’m still talking about it.  The bread had a hint of garlic to it and was like a warm little pillow of heaven. We dipped the bread in oil, and may have gone through two baskets of bread for the four of us gluten-eating people.

We ordered two grandma pies to start – basically a rectangle pie. Each was around $18 and then toppings were $2 – $5 each. We got one pie with peppers and onions, and another with prosciutto. The waitress advised that we get an appetizer to start but to be honest, we didn’t need it since we couldn’t finish the pie. For the appetizer, we got the caprese salad, but it was a tad awkward to share since there were only three pieces of mozzarella and three tomato slices.  My advice is skip the app and just focus on the pie.

The pie was incredible. In fact, the boyfriend has dubbed it best pizza in Astoria. The girls preferred the peppers and onions, while the boys preferred the prosciutto.  The toppings were plentiful, there was a great cheese to sauce ratio, and I loved the crust – so much that I ate every corner piece on that pie, just to enjoy more of it.

Overall, I’m a big fan of Antika and am already trying to plan my next trip back. If you are out in Astoria near 30th Ave (or in Washington Heights as I’ve learned there’s a sister location there), check it out!
