Yes, I Went to Endless Shrimp at Red Lobster

After being teased with their commercials for months, on Monday I dragged my boyfriend to Endless Shrimp at Red Lobster in Queens. What’s Endless Shrimp? Well for $14.99, you can get a salad or soup, a side dish, and then pick from any shrimp dish that you’d like – garlic shrimp scampi, breaded shrimp, teriyaki shrimp over rice, shrimp alfredo over linguini and parmesan shrimp. You start with two shrimp dishes and can mix and match, and then as you finish each dish, you are allowed to order another one.

We started with their amazing cheddar biscuits. I have to say, these buttery biscuits are one of the best parts of Red Lobster – and I love that the waitress sent us home with a bunch of fresh, warm biscuits. I went with the cesar salad – I had a choice of garden or cesar. I left about half on my plate since I got a lot of the white, iceberg lettuce, but overall, was standard.

Then on to the shrimp! I did manage to try all of them – not because I ordered 5 dishes of shrimp, but because my boyfriend and I split every kind. The shrimps are fairly small, so it was easy to eat three different dishes.  My favorite was the shrimp scampi, which shrimp in a garlic oil sauce. Second favorite may have been the parmesan shrimp, which tasted like the shrimp scampi, with some cheese on top. The breaded shrimp was my next favorite, and I was given the choice of cocktail sauce or tarter sauce. The teriyaki shrimp which my boyfriend loved was a little too sweet for me. My least favorite was the shrimp alfredo. Frankly, it tasted like what I imagine glue would taste like. I love cream sauces, but I couldn’t have more than a bite.

Endless Shrimp is by no means the most amazing seafood, but it certainly is a great value.  If you want a taste of the ‘burbs, definitely check it out and the one in Queens offers the same prices you’d get outside the city (Times Square is apparently more).  The promotion started in August, and there’s no word on when it will end. So per usual, my advice is to call ahead.

And by the way – according to my waitress, one guy recently tapped out after eating 17 plates of shrimp. Reason he tapped out? The kitchen closed.

I’ve never been (and purposely avoided) Red Lobster. But I did have the cheddar bay biscuits once and they were pretty good. This post inspired me to make some homemade biscuits and they WERE AWESOME.
