89th And Broke

I'm a young professional living in Astoria (formerly of Williamsburg, the UES and Murray Hill - I move a lot!). I'm always looking for something fun to do or the best place to grab a drink and dinner at an affordable price around the city. Have a suggestion? Email me at Laura AT 89thandbroke DOT com.

Try This Trick! Best Parking Gives the Best Rates!

I do not have a car in NYC, but from my boyfriend who occasionally drives his friend’s car, to my parents who come in once every few months, I’ve had to hear about the difficulties of parking in NYC.  If you struggle with knowing where you can park on the street or where you can find a decent parking garage – or where you can direct visitors to – I recommend you check out Bestparking.com.

This website (and app too) compares different rates of parking garages in the area as well as shows on a map where you can find on-street parking that’s both free and metered.  Currently, you can use the site to find rates all over Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn, but the site is also available in other cities as well, in addition to airports so you know where it’s the cheapest to find airport parking.  For those who love coupons (like me!), the site builds them in to their unique rate calculation engine.

The site was very easy to use – if I lived in Boston for example, and was visiting a friend on the UES, I can just put in the time I plan on arriving and the time I’m departing to find the rate at a variety of garages near said friend’s house.  Additionally, I’d be able to see where I could park on the street too.  For those of you lucky enough to have a car in the city and garage it (I’m looking at you, my friends, Amy and Eddie), you can also find the best monthly garage rates using this app.
