Groupon Deal Leads Us to Psari Seafood

My friend Tom and I love lobster. So much so that we’ve tried several lobster rolls around this fine city. When I saw a Groupon for $39 to Psari in Astoria that included two lobster deals, with two sides, two soups/salads and two drinks, I instant messaged Tom and let him know that our next lobster date was set.

The staff at Psari was incredible. No one gave us any attitude for using a Groupon, and when Tom commented he wanted a soda instead of a glass of wine or champagne, the waitress even offered me his second glass  of champagne. It even got as far as the waitress tying our bibs around our necks and showing me (with gloves on mind you) how to best get all the meat out of my lobster.  Simply fabulous staff.

The meal started off great. The garlic bread was buttery and delicious and frankly I was shocked we were handed two mini-loaves.  I’ve been seriously trying to watch the carbs to get beach body ready, but I couldn’t help but dip this bread into my shrimp bisque, which I chose for my appetizer. The soup mind you had plenty of bits of shrimp in it, and was thick and so creamy. After a bowl of soup, I was stuffed.

My broiled lobster was good, but my only wish was that it was a little more butter flavor or there was butter on the side to dip it into. I know it was cooked in garlic and butter but could have just used a little more potatoes. The lemon potatoes on the side were good as well, but I realized half-way through Tom and I should have tried two different sides and split instead.

We wanted something sweet at the end, but were disappointed that a couple of the desserts on the menu weren’t in – they didn’t get their dessert order in that day.  Still, our server brought over a dessert on the house – a flaky pastry with a sweet cream inside.

Overall, the service was phenomenal.  I liked the soup, but the entree could have used some additional flavor. I’d love to go back one more time though, just because I thought the service was that great.
