Good news! One of my favorite burger places, Joy Burger Bar, has opened its second location. Â If you haven’t made it up to their 100th and Lexington location, you can now check them out in the West Village on Washington Pl and 6th Ave.
I stopped by last night for their soft opening party, and was pleased to see the menu was similar to the Spanish Harlem location – and prices were within a dollar of what they are uptown (burgers are around $7). Â My only complaint – which their owner Tommy admitted he knew I’d be upset about – was that there wasn’t any strawberry shakes. Â Still, the black and white shake was delicious and I couldn’t stop drinking it, even on a cold winter night. Â The new West Village location also has a couple new additions to the menu, like a skirt steak salad, that Tommy was really excited about, and uses fountain soda – as opposed to bottles uptown.
The food was just as good as I remembered and the ordering process was the same. Â You order at the counter and get a playing card. Â At this location, you wait for your card number to be called and then you can enjoy your food.
Chad and I split a burger, a Philly cheesesteak and sweet potato fries. While Chad thought the cheesesteak was pretty good for being outside of Philly, he preferred the burger. The sweet potato fries were delicious in maple syrup, and I loved them dipped especially in the mango chutney sauce.
Whether you want to visit Joy Burger Bar in the West Village or don’t mind sticking to the original location in Spanish Harlem, you can read our review of the food here (and after last night, I can attest that my opinions are still the same). Â We wish Tommy and Rory much success!
