I'm a young professional living in Astoria (formerly of Williamsburg, the UES and Murray Hill - I move a lot!). I'm always looking for something fun to do or the best place to grab a drink and dinner at an affordable price around the city. Have a suggestion? Email me at Laura AT 89thandbroke DOT com.

Deal Alert! Discount to the Amazing Taste of New York Race!

We already told you about the fantastic deals you can score through Neighborhood Eats last week (and trust us, after taking a solid look through the book ourselves, we can’t wait to start redeeming these freebies), and this week we’re here to tell you about a cool food adventure sponsored by Neighborhood Eats and POGO Events.

Sunday, October 3rd will mark the first ever “Amazing Taste of New York Race.” So what does that entail exactly? Well, it’s part scavenger hunt and part food crawl, which sounds perfectly awesome to us. Teams will be racing around Manhattan following clues to both well-known and some more obscure landmarks, and at each location the teams will get to sample different ethnic cuisines. Participants will also receive a free copy of the 2010 Neighborhood Eats dining guide, which is packed with over $1,000 worth of dining deals, as well as goody bag with other fun stuff. There will be prizes as well including gift certificates to different restaurants, gym memberships, etc.

Ticket prices are $50 if you purchase them by September 3rd and they go up to $60 after that. If you’re interested in putting a team together, use the 89vip code and get $5 off each member’s registration! Considering a Neighborhood Eats book is $40 on its own (or $19.97 if you use the 89vip code), this is definitely a good deal, as well as a fun and unique way to spend a Sunday afternoon. You can purchase tickets here. Good luck!
