I’ve recently read that Cer té (55th between 5th and 6th), a small midtown lunch place, has phenomenal
sandwiches. So I checked out their menu and was thrilled to discover they also offer a great brunch (not on Sundays) at reasonably low prices. So last Saturday I headed over to see if everything was really as great as it sounds.
Cer té is tucked into the street and it took me a little while to actually find it. But it was worth the effort. The menu was one of those menus where everything sounds amazing. No matter what I chose, I knew I would want something else. But in an effort to stay healthy I opted for the omlette. Unlike most brunch places in the city, Cer té lets you have unlimited omlette fillings. Even more amazing it comes with homefries, toast, and a side all for $10.
I had a goat cheese omlette with spinach, asparagus, and lox. It was amazing. For my side I got a bowl of fresh fruit that was actually really fresh. It was a great assortment of melons and berries which tasted surprisingly good considering the time of year.
The place itself has an interesting set-up. Cer té is half restaurant and half catering company. So while we ate brunch at our table, their staff set up huge lunch trays at the table next to us. It wasn’t too crowded and my roommate threatened me never to write about it because she didn’t want the word getting out about how great it was (hope she doesn’t find this blog).
The Basics Name: Cer té Location: 20 W 55th St (between 5th and 6th) Who to bring: Anyone Price: Breakfast at a sit-down restaurant under 10. $. Overall: Loved it. 5 stars.
