89th And Broke

I'm a young professional living in Astoria (formerly of Williamsburg, the UES and Murray Hill - I move a lot!). I'm always looking for something fun to do or the best place to grab a drink and dinner at an affordable price around the city. Have a suggestion? Email me at Laura AT 89thandbroke DOT com.

Forget Happy Hour, Get Me To Tappy Hour

Things that I love:

  • Food
  • Drinks
  • Dancing
  • Dogs

Those are my top four without a shadow of a doubt. What makes me even happier is when these wonderful worlds combine, and considering that food and drinks, as well as drinks and dancing, are often found hand-in-hand, I’m a pretty happy person.

But The Skint mentioned an upcoming event that made my jaw drop – drinks and TAP DANCING. While I can’t exactly dance per se (some may say I’m a talented interpretative artist, and I do have some trademark moves), I do love to watch dancing (there’s a reason Dancing With The Stars is my favorite show) and I’ve definitely learned a few tap dance moves in my musical theater past.

Anyway, enough about me…let’s get you drinking and dancing. Undertoe Dance Project, a dance company that “fuses contemporary jazz with the percussive rhythms of tap dance,” is hosting Tappy Hour at Jimmy’s No. 43. From 7-8 pm on three upcoming Thursdays – January 7, February 4 and March 11, and from 6-7 pm on three upcoming Saturdays – January 23, February 20 and March 20, you can join a recreational tap dance class and throw back a free drink to help ease any awkwardness. No previous experience is necessary and you don’t need tap shoes to learn the moves. Just throw away any inhibitions (or drink them away) and cut a rug!

You can RSVP here.

P.S. If you want to see another great combo (dogs and dancing), check out this video.
