Looking for something to do this weekend? Well (get ready for some shameless self-promotion) this weekend I am co-hosting a charity open bar at the Bull Pen on the Upper East Side on Saturday, January 16 from 9 pm – 12 am. Cost of admission is $35 and includes live music and all you can drink wells and beers. While this may not seem like a huge deal, a portion of your admission goes to funding rare cancer research. Rare cancers include pancreatic, brain, cervical, ALL pediatric cancers, blood, bone and so many others. Since these cancers affect so few people annually, they do not warrant government-funded research and therefore leave patients with limited treatment options and little hope for future discoveries. It’s deceiving because while individually they affect so few, collectively rare cancers account for more than 50% of cancer cases.
So why an open bar? Well my friends and I are participating in Cycle For Survival on January 31, a fundraising event where we’ll spin – as in ride exercise bikes – for 4 hours. Instead of just raising money on our own (we’ve raised $1745 so far!), we thought it’d be fun to guzzle a few cocktails.
If you would like to donate, click here. And if you are planning any charity functions yourself, let us know!
