89th And Broke

I'm a young professional living in Astoria (formerly of Williamsburg, the UES and Murray Hill - I move a lot!). I'm always looking for something fun to do or the best place to grab a drink and dinner at an affordable price around the city. Have a suggestion? Email me at Laura AT 89thandbroke DOT com.

Whether you are in the process of moving to New York City or have lived here for a few years, let’s face it – living in New York can be tough.  While there are plenty of sources out there explaining what to do if you are a visitor in NYC, few provide tips on how to actually live in NYC.

We’ve recently teamed up with Jenni at the Post Grad blog to bring us some of their tips and tricks, so from time to time, you’ll see a few posts from her appear on this blog.  The Post Grad blog has some really cool pieces, especially if you are ready to take the plunge and move here.  One of my favorite features is the ever expanding neighborhood guides, which gives you a quick explanation of things you’d need to know if you lived in the ‘hood – gyms, transportation, grocery stores, etc.  I also like the New York trivia features, as the site provides answers to some questions you might be thinking of, but are too embarrassed to ask your friends (i.e. “What is the second avenue subway?” and yes, my roommate did pose this question to me back in February 2008).

To introduce the blog, here’s Jenni, editor of the Post Grad blog:

Postgrad makes moving to New York City easier than ever. Not only will we find you a great apartment, but we now also offer an awesome new blog filled with information, tips, and tricks to learn your way around the city. Daily blogs combined with popular weekly series help every postgrad to make a flawless adjustment from college student to New Yorker. Neighborhood guides and walk-throughs intimately introduce you to parts of New York that people spend months figuring out.  Read the blogs, ask your questions, and make your comments.
