One of our favorite sites, 8coupons.com, is turning two on 8.8.09 and celebrating in 89th and Broke style – with lots of coupons! Check out this link to see the different deals (the Cold Stone Creamery and Buttercup Bakery coupons sound good to us). One of the more interesting offers is $8 tickets to see The Toxic Avenger Musical. You text yourself the coupon code OCHO LOCHO!, go to the box office on 8.12.09 (the only day it’s valid – for an 8 pm show), and pay in cash. That’s it. Looks like it’s one ticket per coupon, but still it’s a steal.
However, I recently saw this musical and must add my two cents – it was weird. Yes, it was funny at times (nearly all the jokes were focused on the blind female lead), but it was just weird. It’s based on a cult horror film from the 1980s about a nerd who is bullied and dunked into New Jersey’s toxic waste supply. He emerges as a grotesque super hero of sorts who goes around town decapitating and dismembering New Jersey’s criminals and deadbeats. There’s also a love story thrown in there between the Toxic Avenger aka Toxie and the blind librarian. The musical is set to a rock score by Bon Jovi’s piano player (although there are several rip offs in the musical – one song in particular has parts that are nearly identical to John Mellencamp’s Jack and Diane), so it’s definitely not you’re traditional musical. But sometimes that’s fun and it draws in a different crowd. Anyway, if you’re looking for something different it’s definitely worth a try, especially at $8. I would not pay the regular $85 ticket, but that’s just me.
Anyway, take advantage of these coupons and remember to check back to 8coupons.com for deals all year long.

Any musical that has anything to do with music from Bon Jovi and John Mellencamp should immediately win about 15 Toni awards. Caryn, I’m disheartened by your use of the word ‘weird’ to describe this.
