Tomorrow night I’m treating my parents to dinner for their birthdays (they’re back-to-back), so I was checking out a few restaurants on Long Island. If I’m footing the bill for three people, and we like to drink which adds up, then it needs to be a very moderately priced establishment. One suggestion was Vincent’s Clambar in Carle Place, and when I visited the site I knew I found the winner. Displayed in the top menu bar (and below the History on the main page) was a link for a Free Appetizer!
All you have to do is sign up for their newsletter and they’ll email you a coupon. It’s good until August 21st and of course you’re limited to one per table. It specifies that the coupon is valid for One Free House Appetizer, and while I’m not sure what a “House Appetizer” is, I’m sure I’ll like it because it’s free.
So I thought, while this Deal Alert is interesting to my Long Island readers (shout out to Claire!), I’m not sure that the NYC readers would appreciate it. But alas, I checked out the original Vincent’s site (it’s been in Little Italy on Mott Street for over 100 years) and it appears that they are offering a different coupon. Not quite as generous, but you can print out a $5 coupon with the purchase of a minimum of $25 worth of food and drinks. This lasts until August 31st, so there’s plenty of time to enjoy it. It’s just a good incentive to check out this legendary (I’m only on episode 5 of How I Met Your Mother and I’m already pausing before using that word so casually) NYC Italian restaurant.
I’ve been to Vincent’s Clambar on Long Island many times and particularly love the grilled chicken Caesar salad (I can’t describe it, it’s just amazing), the red sauce of course, the baked clams appetizer (maybe that’s what we’ll get tomorrow night) and of course, the free bread and olive oil. I must take a moment to talk about the bread and olive oil – you get a round, warm, delicious mini loaf of bread on a cutting board with a knife sticking out, and a shallow dish with a soft block of spices and herbs that break down when they pour the olive oil over it. It’s simply outstanding, and it’s worth going to the restaurant just for the bread and oil.
Anyway, hope you can enjoy these coupons!

Clams are bad for my stomach, but I DO love bread and oil.
