Great Event, Poor Mac and Cheese
Thanks to our friends at 8coupons.com, we headed over to Supermac for 8 cent mac and cheese last week. From an event perspective, we thought this event was executed perfectly and really appreciated the invite. So thanks to Landy and the gang at 8coupons.com!
With a bit of a line at Supermac, we were lucky enough to get our servings to go. Supermac is a tiny store front, without much seating (at least for the event), so we headed over Penn and sat on the walls outside Borders so we could enjoy our meal. The aluminum containers were warm, and from the look of the bread crumbs, we were anticipating delicious mac and cheese. Unfortunately, it was just okay. While the bread crumbs added a great texture, I really wished there was some real cheese in
the mac and cheese. Instead, I felt like condensed cheddar Campbell soup was thrown around with some elbow pasta.
We had the mini mac portion, which was perfect. I was full but didn’t feel like I was in a food coma when I finished it. However, my roommate was still hungry and had to make himself dinner when he got home. He wasn’t feeling too well though after the mac and cheese. It didn’t affect anyone else in the group, but he definitely suffered from stomach “tremors” the whole way home.
While i had a great time at the event and appreciate the service, unfortunately my first impression with Supermac’s food was not the best. While the restaurant always seems to offer great deals in AM New York, I won’t be redeeming those coupons anytime soon.
The Basics Name: Supermac Location:348 7th Avenue (between 29th and 30th) Who to take: Friends Price: Under $10. $. Overall: Good bread crumbs isn’t a reason to go back. 2 stars.

i checked that out too, in the evening after work, and you summed up my thoughts exactly. i was sad to say the mac and cheese was mediocre at best.

have you had any good mac & cheese experiences to share?

Unfortunately, no. I’d like to try Penelope’s mac and cheese, since the grilled cheese is so good. I’ve heard 44&X and Nolita House are both supposed to have good mac & cheese, but I don’t have any personal experience with it.
